Selling on Amazon Europe is not one compliance problem, it is six running in parallel: tax, product safety, packaging, transport, category claims and brand protection. Miss any one of them and the listing goes down — usually at the worst possible moment.

This page is the map. Every guide below is written for brands entering Europe from outside it, and each one covers what actually stops listings rather than what the regulation says in the abstract.

Amazon Europe Compliance Checklist: VAT, EPR & GPSR

VAT and tax

VAT is where most brands lose time before they lose money. The obligations depend on where your stock physically sits, not where your company is registered — which is why a fulfilment decision quietly becomes a tax decision.

Product safety, GPSR and EU representation

Europe requires a named economic operator inside the EU for most products, plus labelling and documentation that match. This is the layer that catches US brands by surprise, because nothing equivalent is asked of them at home.

Packaging and EPR

Extended Producer Responsibility is registered per country and per material. Germany enforces it hardest, and Amazon checks it before your listings go live there.

Dangerous goods

A surprising share of beauty and personal care products are classified as dangerous goods — anything pressurised, alcohol-based or flammable. Getting the classification wrong stops inbound shipments rather than listings.

Cosmetics and personal care claims

Most suppressions in beauty come from ordinary marketing language, not from carelessness. Words that are normal on a US label can read as a drug claim in the EU and take the listing down without warning.

Brand Registry and brand protection

Brand Registry is the entry ticket to A+ content, Stores and the tools that remove hijackers. Which trademark qualifies depends on where you are registered and which marketplaces you are entering.

Listings that stay compliant in every language

Compliance and copy are the same job in Europe. A literal translation can be accurate and still break a claim rule, or be legal and still fail to rank because the local search language is different.

Fulfilment structure

Where your stock sits determines your VAT footprint, your delivery promise and your fee base. It is worth deciding deliberately rather than accepting the default.
