Case study · Pilates & barre grip socks · Amazon USHow LISAMAREE got 3× the conversion from one main image and went from a −42% margin to profit.

LISAMAREE's grip socks had good reviews and repeat buyers, but by June the Amazon US account was running at a −42% margin, spending more on ads than it could earn back. We took it over in July, rebuilt the advertising, fixed the listings, the stock and the catalogue, and launched new styles. One new main image tripled the conversion rate in Amazon's own A/B test, TACoS fell from 81% to 35%, and by September the margin was +3%.

The brand

Loved in the studio. Losing money on Amazon.

LISAMAREE makes grip socks for pilates, barre and reformer: embroidered slogans and symbols like a chilli, an evil eye or the American flag, silicone grips shaped to match, one size for US 5–10. On Amazon US, 21 designs share one variation family, and five new styles now have listings of their own.

The line launched on Amazon in October 2025 and rode the holiday season. Then the momentum faded. Into 2026 the ads kept spending as if it were still Q4, the sales didn't follow, and by June the account was running at a −42% margin. That's when Lisa asked us to look at it.

The challenge

Paying for traffic that didn't pay back.

We audited the account before any contract: two calls with Lisa, then 60 days of Business Reports, Search Query Performance and Sponsored Products data. This is what we found.

  • Cost of goods−$490.00
  • TACoS81.40%
  • Net profit−$1,361.81
  • Net margin−42.19%

Net margin is net profit (after advertising, Amazon fees, refunds and the landed cost of every pair) as a share of sales.

  1. The profit was gone

In June the account ran at a −42% margin: $3,228 of sales and a $1,361.81 loss after ads, Amazon fees, refunds and product cost. The more it sold through ads, the more it lost.

  2. Ads eating the revenue

TACoS was 81.4% in June: of every $100 in sales, $81 went back into advertising. January to June the ads cost $15,128.71 and brought in $16,856.00, an ACOS of 89.75%.

  3. Budget leaking to the wrong places

Spend sat on campaigns, keywords and placements that didn't convert, with no clear campaign structure behind it.

  4. Listings that couldn't convert a click

Main images that didn't show grip, fit or comfort at thumbnail size, most designs short of a full seven-image gallery, and titles and bullets not built on what shoppers actually search.

  5. Almost no organic visibility

Next to the main competitors the listings barely ranked on their own, so nearly every sale had to be bought with ads.

  6. A thin review base

The designs shared one variation family and a small pool of reviews, and the hero style had a much weaker rating base than its competitors.

  7. Catalogue errors

One listing sat in the men's socks category, another carried the wrong design name, and the Amazon SKUs didn't match the brand's own master list.

  8. Stock in the wrong places

Two styles were out of stock with no refill before late September, while slow styles sat in FBA for 180–270 days: money tied up where there was no demand, gaps where there was.

What we did

Stop the losses first. Then grow.

Lisa agreed: stabilise first. We took the account over on 2 July and worked in this order.

  1. 01

    PPC rebuilt around what sells

We cut the spend on campaigns, keywords and placements that weren't converting, rebuilt the campaign structure, and moved the budget to the best-selling styles and to product targeting. Spend per month fell by almost half while ad sales per month held within 12%.

    New styles, built from scratch

Lisa wanted an American flag design on Amazon. We built American Sweetheart from nothing: keyword research and SEO, the main image, a ten-image gallery, Premium A+ and the Brand Story. Then Vine, so the first shoppers didn't land on an empty review box. BOO Halloween and Queen of Hearts are brand-new designs too, launched the same way in September.

BOO Halloween, This Ain't My First Reformer Ride, Lucky Horseshoe, Queen of Hearts and Strong Girls Club went live in September, each with its own A+ content. The results

Back in profit in the third month.

June ran at a −42% margin. July, our first month, brought it to −13%. August added the new styles and their Vine enrolment and still came in at −1%. September, to the 26th, is +3%. It's a thin margin, not a finished job, but the leaks are closed and the account now earns from what it spends.

Takeaways

What other brands can take from this.

  1. 01Stop the losses before you scale

The first month cut the loss by three quarters, mostly by stopping ad spend that wasn't paying back.

  2. 02Paid traffic needs a listing that converts

One tested main image tripled the conversion rate, so every click after it is worth more.

  3. 03Know your real margin

Without the landed cost in the P&L, a busy month can still be a losing one.

  4. 04Reviews are part of the launch

Vine on the new styles, so the first shoppers see proof instead of an empty review box.

  5. 05Plan stock per style

Best sellers shouldn't run out while slow styles age in FBA, least of all before the holidays.

  6. 06Turnarounds take months

June to September went from a −42% margin to +3%. The work now is growing it.

The profit didn't come from spending more. It came from spending better.
